Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
Big Bite Halal (“we”, “us” or “our”) is a Perth-based halal food and business directory operated by a sole trader in Western Australia, Australia.
Our website, bigbitehalal.com.au (the “Website”), helps people discover halal food businesses and related services. It may also feature food content, community events, articles and business promotions.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose information when you visit or use our Website, submit a business listing, contact us or otherwise interact with us.
We aim to handle information responsibly and transparently. Whilst our small-business is exempt under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we aim to follow good privacy practices and will review our obligations if our business activities change.
Data collection when submitting listings
When you submit a business listing, complete a contact form or communicate with us, we may collect:
-
Your name and, where relevant, your business or organisation’s name.
-
Your email address and telephone number.
-
Business address, location and contact details.
-
Business descriptions, categories and operating hours.
-
Website addresses and social media links.
-
Menus, prices, photographs, logos and other uploaded documents or media.
-
Information about halal certification, halal claims or other halal-related business characteristics.
-
Messages, enquiries, feedback and other communications you send us.
-
Any other information you choose to provide.
We may collect or compile business information from publicly available sources, including business websites, public directories and business social media pages. Where appropriate, we may contact businesses to confirm or update information before publishing it.
Information supplied for administrative purposes, such as a submitter’s private email address or personal telephone number, is not intended to be published automatically simply because a listing has been submitted. We may use these details to communicate with the submitter and manage the listing. If information is supplied as a public business contact detail, it may appear on the listing.
Please review submissions carefully and avoid including private information in content intended for public display.
Data collection as a user
When you visit the Website, our hosting provider, WordPress installation, security tools or other technologies may collect technical information, depending on their configuration. This may include your IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, access times, referring website and technical logs used to maintain the Website and investigate errors or security issues. Information regarding our dedicated analytics or tracking tools will be included once integrated.
Our Website uses OpenStreetMap-based mapping to help visitors locate listed businesses. The particular map tile, geocoding or location-search provider used will depend on the Website’s technical configuration.
Some features may allow you to search for businesses near your current location. If you choose to use such a feature, your browser may ask for permission to access your device’s location. You can decline or withdraw permission through your browser or device settings.
OpenStreetMap provides map data and may be used alongside services operated by other providers. Their respective privacy policies and terms may apply to information processed by those services.
Payments
Business listings are currently free to submit. We may introduce paid listings, promotional placements or other paid services in the future.
If payment functionality is introduced, we may collect information needed to administer transactions, such as purchaser details, selected services, transaction amounts, payment status and transaction references. We may use a third-party payment provider, such as Stripe. If so, payment information will also be handled in accordance with that provider’s privacy policy and terms.
How we use information
We may use information to:
-
Receive, review, approve, reject, publish, update or remove business listings.
-

We aim to collect and use only the information reasonably needed for these purposes.
Listing review and approval
We review business submissions before publication and may contact businesses to clarify information or request supporting details.
We may reject, amend, suspend or remove listings that appear inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or unsuitable for the directory.
Approval does not necessarily mean that every detail has been independently verified. Halal-related information may come from business owners, publicly available sources or our own research. We may review certification details or other supporting information where appropriate.
Unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular listing, a business appearing in the directory should not be taken as a guarantee that Big Bite Halal has independently audited, certified or endorsed that business.
We may update or remove information that appears inaccurate or outdated, including after receiving credible feedback.
How we disclose information
We may disclose relevant information in the following circumstances.
Service providers
We may share information with providers that help us operate the Website, including hosting providers, WordPress-related services, website administrators, contact-form or email services, mapping providers, security tools and analytics providers if introduced.
If paid services are introduced, we may also share relevant transaction information with a payment processor such as Stripe. These providers may process information in accordance with their own terms and the services they provide.
Public listings
Information included in an approved public listing is accessible to Website visitors and may be copied or shared by third parties.
Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to a lawful request, protect rights or safety, investigate suspected fraud or misuse, or establish or defend a legal claim.
Business changes
If the Website or associated business is sold, transferred or restructured, relevant information may be disclosed where reasonably necessary for the transaction and subject to applicable requirements.
Overseas Data Processing
Some providers used to operate the Website may store or process information outside Australia. The relevant countries will depend on the hosting, mapping, email, analytics and payment services implemented.
When you follow an external link or interact directly with a third-party service, that provider’s own privacy policy and terms may also apply.
Information Security
We may hold information in our Website database, hosting environment, email accounts, administrative records and the systems of third-party providers. We aim to take reasonable steps appropriate to our circumstances to protect information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Safeguards may include access restrictions, secure connections, software updates and limiting access to people who need the information to perform relevant tasks.
No internet transmission or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. If a data breach occurs, we will assess the circumstances and take appropriate steps, including any actions required by applicable law.
Data retention
We aim to retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to applicable legal obligations and legitimate record-keeping needs.
Requests to access, correct or remove information
Business owners may contact us at their discretion to request updates to or removal of their listings. You may also contact us to request correction or removal of personal information you have supplied, or to ask about information we hold about you.
We will consider requests in light of the information involved, our ability to verify the request, the purpose for which the information is held and any applicable legal obligations or legitimate reasons for retaining it.
To make a request, submit an enquiry or email us and explain what you would like changed or removed. We may need to verify your identity or authority to act for a business before making changes.
Marketing communications
We do not currently have a newsletter or marketing email program. If you receive marketing communications in the future, you may opt out using the unsubscribe facility provided or by contacting us directly.
We may still send necessary administrative messages relating to a listing or enquiry you have submitted.
External links
The Website may link to business websites, social media pages, mapping services, certification resources and other external websites. We do not control the privacy practices or content of external websites. You should review their privacy policies and terms before providing information directly to them.
Information about others
If you submit photographs, documents or other content containing information about another person, you should ensure that you have the necessary permission or authority to provide that content and that it is appropriate for public publication.
If you believe information has been published inappropriately, please contact us so we can review the matter.
Questions or concerns
If you have a concern about how we collect, use, store or disclose information, please contact us and explain the nature of your concern with relevant information. We aim to review and respond to complaints within a reasonable period.
If you believe the Privacy Act applies to us and you are not satisfied with our response, you may wish to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) to understand whether it can assist.
